Sea lions at Pipers Lagoon

During an afternoon stroll to the local beach, I had a chance encounter with a raft of California sea lions. Arriving at the beach I heard them barking and calling and splashing around, and before I left the beach I had counted about 60 animals, divided into a handful of groups, near and far.

As luck would have it I had my wildlife lens with me, so I took a few shots as they swam by:

There were other animals too, eagles, gulls, ducks, and this harbour seal which seemed ill at ease near these boisterous sea lions:
